DARIEN, IL – A Darien alderman said Monday that a resident told him speeding was becoming a problem again on 79th Street.

"We had this issue about 12 years ago. We kind of settled it," Ward 1 Alderman Ted Schauer said at a City Council meeting. "Are we going to put speed bumps in there?"

In response, Dan Gombac, the municipal services director, said police were conducting surveillance on 79th Street, which has a 25 mph speed limit.

Based on the results, the city may put temporary speed humps on the street, Gombac said. Depending on how that works out, the city may then install permanent humps if they're warranted, he said.

Schauer said the plan sounded good.
