Unlocked Truck Burglarized In Darien Neighborhood; $3K In Items Stolen

In another case, a woman was charged with DUI after hitting another car near an officer, police said.

DARIEN, IL – In the last few days, Darien police handled cases involving a truck break-in, DUIs and retail theft. Here is information from the reports:

Truck break-in

  • DeWalt tools, eight batteries and two charging ports were stolen overnight Monday from a work truck in the 7200 block of Eleanor Place. The truck was unlocked. The stolen items were valued at $3,000.

  • A 44-year-old Darien woman who lives in the 100 block of 68th Street was arrested about 2 p.m. Wednesday on charges of DUI and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. An officer was stopped at an intersection and heard a noise from behind. A white Toyota had just rear-ended a white Mercedes. The woman was given a court date and released.
  • A 33-year-old Kettering, Ohio, woman was arrested about 1:30 p.m. Sunday on charges of DUI (drugs), possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they were called to Aldi, 2251 75th St., to check on the woman's well-being. She was given a court date and released.

Retail theft

  • A 50-year-old Westmont woman was arrested about 2:30 p.m. Sunday on a retail theft charge. Police said the woman under-rang items at the self-checkout lane at Walmart, 2189 75th St. She was given a court date and released.
  • A 59-year-old Downers Grove man was arrested about 6 p.m. Tuesday on a retail theft charge. Police said he scanned an image of a barcode on his phone instead of a product's actual barcode at Walmart, 2189 75th St. The man was given a court date and released.
