Willowbrook Car Theft Suspects Arrested After Chase: Cops

The driver turned off his lights and sped more than 100 mph before being caught, police said.

OAK BROOK, IL – Two men who stole a car in a Willowbrook neighborhood were arrested early Tuesday morning after a police chase, authorities said.

The men were identified as Amarion Sutton, 19, of Maywood; Isaac Ramirez, 23, of Cicero; and a 16-year-old Orland Hills boy.

Shortly before 1 a.m., police were alerted to a car burglary in the 6000 block of Stewart Drive in Willowbrook, according to a news release from DuPage County prosecutors.

An Oak Brook officer positioned himself on Route 83, expecting the vehicle, a 2019 Nissan Altima, to head his way.

The driver, Sutton, sped past him shortly after, prompting the officer to turn on his emergency lights, police said.

Instead of pulling over, Sutton turned off his lights and sped more than 100 mph, prosecutors said.

As Sutton entered Interstate 88, the officer deployed a tire deflation device, deflating Sutton's two passenger-side tires.

Sutton stopped, and the three suspects ran away, police said. They were caught soon after.

Officers said they found a Glock 25 with an extended magazine, which they believed the youth threw away as he fled.

"There are still individuals in our society who insist on treating crimes like these as'just property crimes,'" Oak Brook Police Chief Brian Strockis said in the news release. "That belief is dangerously misguided. Time and again over the past three years, our officers have recovered illegal firearms from offenders fleeing in stolen vehicles."

Sutton was ordered to stay in jail until his trial, while Ramirez was released with conditions such as having no contact with the Altima's owner.

The youth is to be detained until at least his next court appearance.

Sutton was charged with aggravated possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing and eluding an officer, while Ramirez faces a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle.

The youth was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and unlawful possession of a firearm.
