Caucus Slate, Independent Battle For Deerfield Board: Election Results

Three incumbents sought to keep their seats on the Deerfield Village Board with Elaine Jacoby emerging as the unofficial top voter-getter.

DEERFIELD, IL — In a race for three seats on the Deerfield Village Board, a trio of caucus-endorsed candidates battled an independent candidate on Election Day.

With unofficial results provided by the Lake County Clerk's Office, Elaine Jacoby emerged as the top vote-getter in Tuesday's election, finishing with 1,179 votes (31.39 percent)

  • Larry Berg 1,029 (27.40 percent)
  • Bill Seiden 1,025 (27.29 percent)
  • Christopher M. Goodsnyder 523 (13.92 percent)

Berg, Jacoby and Seiden ran as part of the Deerfield Village Caucus 2023 slate.

Polls officially closed at 7 p.m. Early voting and vote-by-mail ballots are included in the total. Provisional ballots and late arriving vote-by-mail ballots are not included, according to the Lake County Clerk's Office. All results are unofficial.

The Village of Deerfield is governed by a mayor and a six-member board of trustees, all of whom are elected for four-year staggered terms, and who serve without pay. The board is the legislative body of the Village government. All administrative work is performed under the direction of the village manager, who is salaried and appointed by the mayor and board of trustees.

Seiden has been a member of the Deerfield Village Board since 1999. For the past 20 years, the certified public accountant has worked for Clint Murchison Jr., the original owner of the Dallas Cowboys, as his chief financial officer for all of his diverse food, manufacturing and service companies, including Texas Stadium Corporation. He also teaches at Northwestern University.

Jacoby, 56, has been a trustee on the Deerfield Village Board since 2021. For the past three decades, she has worked in the public relations and marketing communications industries; some of the companies include Kraft Foods, Hewitt and Associates and Ameritech.

Berg, 61, was appointed to the Deerfield Village Board in 2022. He filled a vacancy left by the resignation of Trustee Tom Jester. Berg, a former chairman of the Deerfield Plan Commission, has been practicing law for 36 years.

Goodsnyder 54, an independent, has been practicing law in Illinois since 1993. He has a bachelor's degree in history from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a Juris Doctorate from DePaul College of Law.
