Deerfield and Highland Park Police Crack Car Burglary Ring

Burglary to Motor Vehicle 

Brian Krapf, 19, Adrian Arceo, 18, and Daniel Awe, 18, all of Darien, were charged with one felony count each Monday of burglary to a motor vehicle, according to Deerfield Police Sgt. Bill Annen. 

Deerfield Police and other local law enforcement agencies had been investigating a string of automobile burglaries including 10 in Deerfield as well as others in Highland Park, according to Annen. 

At 2:25 a.m. Monday, Deerfield Police received a call from the Highland Park Police Department informing Village Officers they had arrested Krapf, Arceo and Awe who had confessed to a number of automobile break ins in Highland Park, according to Annen. They also recovered property reported stolen in Deerfield. 

“The guys in Highland Park did a real good job,” Annen said. 

Once Deerfield detectives had the opportunity to question Krapf, Arceo and Awe, they were able to determine they had property reportedly taken from vehicles in Deerfield including a GPS and wallets, according to Annen. The investigation is ongoing. More charges could be added as property is matched with victims. 

Reckless Driver Wanted in Wisconsin 

Annen and Highland Park Police Commander William Tellone both identified Marshall Wolbers, 57, of Genoa City, WI, who was charged in both communities Friday for traffic related offenses, as the man wanted in Outagamie County, WI, near Appleton, for armed robbery, false imprisonment, theft and victim intimidation.

Wolbers was accused of holding an employee of the Fox Counties Convention and Visitors Bureau in Appleton at gun point, stealing her credit cars and fleeing in her van July 22, according to an article in the Appleton Post-Crescent.

Police in Wisconsin claim Wolbers entered the convention center shortly after it opened, walked down a hall and came back after donning a black mask and plastic gloves. He tied the victim’s arms behind her back and duct-taped her mouth and ankles, according to the Post Crescent.

Wolbers was chased down by Deerfield Police Friday and charged with fleeing and eluding, reckless driving, driving while license suspended and disobeying a traffic control device in Highland Park, according to Highland Park Police reports.

Highland Park Police attempted to stop Wolbers in the 1500 block of Deerfield Road, Highland Park, according to the report. After eventually being stopped by Deerfield Police, Wolbers was held on felony charges.

No information is available yet on any possible charges in Deerfield or other jurisdictions.
