Holy Cross School Opens 75th Year Wednesday

opens its 75^th year Wednesday when it welcomes 221 students from preschool through eighth grade.

The school has a special 75^th anniversary logo designed by a group that includes a graduate of Holy Cross. There will be a number of events through the year to commemorate the institution’s heritage.

One of the things will be trophy case featuring artifacts and other items depicting education in each decade of the school’s existence starting with the 1930’s, according to Principal Janice Di Vincenzo.

“It will show education over the course of the years,” Di Vincenzo said. “The students will do the research and find the artifacts.”

Another event will be an all service day Sept. 14 for the Feast of the Holy Cross where students will take part in acts to benefit the community.

“The seventh and eighth graders will pack food at Feed My Starving Children in Schaumberg,” Di Vincenzo said. Some activities will be on campus and others will be throughout the area.

Another program new this year will be a bullying awareness program. “It’s not an issue in the school but we want students to know how to keep peer relationships positive,” Di Vincenzo said. Also added this term is a new writing program for children in kindergarten through fourth grades.

The logo is a diamond in shape for the 75^th anniversary containing images of the Jerusalem cross, the long standing logo of the parish and school, according to Di Vincenzo. It also contains what she terms the “three pillars of Faith, Achievement and Community.
