Letter to the Editor: Display of “Character and Honor”
Former police chief lauds character of Deerfield High School students.

On the 25th of July, I was witness to an act of honor and character that occurred in a Deerfield house of worship.
The Deerfield football team, its coaches, trainers, spirit squad, and parents met at Holy Cross Church for a faith service dedicated to their 17 year old team manager. I watched each of you, in their own way, offer your kind thoughts, your best wishes, and your prayers for a young man who has battled cancer since childhood and now faces another challenge.
This display of moral strength, developed character, and fierce solidarity is emblematic of the young men and women that are Deerfield High School, and are an example of the emphasis on moral character that is a tradition at DHS. As a long time resident and former Deerfield Police officer, I thank each of you for who you are and the example you continue to set.
