2nd Pedestrian Killed By Metra Train In 24 Hours In Downers Grove

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a Metra train in Downers Grove around 7:30 a.m., according to spokesperson Meg Thomas-Reile. The train was heading east when it hit the passenger, Downers Grove Deputy Chief Jim McGreal confirmed.

McGreal said the pedestrian was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital to be treated for critical injuries and was pronounced dead in the hospital.

The fatal crash comes less than 24 hours after a person died in a pedestrian-train crash involving a Metra BNSF train Monday around 4:30 p.m.

Thomas-Reile told Patch the crash involved train #1228, which was set to arrive at the Downers Grove Main Street Station around 7:30 a.m. Trains were still halted around 8:45 a.m.
