Butterfield Road Corridor Plan: Residents Invited To Open House
Downers Grove, Lombard and Oak Brook are looking for feedback as they work to improve and develop a stretch of Butterfield Road.

OAK BROOK, IL — Downers Grove, Lombard and Oak Brook are seeking feedback as they continue to develop a plan to improve a stretch of Butterfield Road that extends between the villages.
An open house is set for Nov. 20 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Yorktown Center to allow residents to review current recommendations for the corridor.
In 2021, the villages partnered with Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) to envision ways to:

- Develop housing and business opportunities
- Improve road safety
- Improve PACE bus service
The study focused on Butterfield Road between 22nd Street and I-88 and between I-83 and I-355.
Key recommendations were developed in 2022 and plan drafting began at the start of 2023. Since then, surveys and meetings have been conducted with hundreds of community members to identify priorities for the project.

Some priorities identified by community members have been outlined on the Butterfield Road corridor plan page. These include:
- Grocery store development
- Improved bike access
- More green space
- Improved pedestrian infrastructure
- Better public transit
According to CMAP, over 5,000 car crashes and 17 bicycle/pedestrian crashes were reported in the Butterfield Road corridors study area between 2011 and 2020. The study area also currently offers six bus routes via Pace, but the plan hopes to increase access for riders.
