Car Burglarized, Senior Targeted In Medicare Scam: Downers Grove Blotter

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — An 80-year-old man was targeted in a Medicare scam, a car was burglarized in a residents driveway and a retail theft was reported at TJ Maxx, according to the most recent Downers Grove police blotter.
Car Burglarized in 6400 Block of Hathaway Lane
Police were called to the 6400 block of Hathaway Lane on Sept. 17 for a report of a car burglary. The victim told police they parked their car in their driveway around 8 p.m. on Sept. 16. When they returned around 7:15 p.m. on Sept. 17, they noticed their car's driver's side door was ajar.

According to the crime blotter, the car had been left unlocked. Police say the resident reviewed surveillance camera footage, but did not see any suspicious activity during the aforementioned timeframe.
The following items were reported stolen: two pairs Gucci sunglasses, two hats and a roof removal tool and manual for the car. The total loss was estimated at $455.

Resident Targeted in Medicare Scam
An 80-year-old Downers Grove man told police he believes he was the target of a Medicare scam. Police say the man got a call around 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 11 in which a man requested confirmation of his address, so he could be sent a new Medicare card.
According to the blotter, the caller begin to ask questions about the resident's medical history, prompting the resident to end the call. No loss was reported.
Retail Theft at TJ Maxx
A woman was cited Sept. 10 in connection with a retail theft at the TJ Maxx at 7349 Lemont Rd. The store's loss prevention team told police they observed the woman putting items in a shopping basket before trying to leave the store without paying.
The stolen items included a sweater, perfume, hosiery and other merchandise, with the total loss estimated at $86.93.
