Crosswalk Construction Planned In Downtown Downers Grove
The construction, slated to start in summer 2023, will impact crosswalks at several intersections downtown.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — This summer, the village of Downers Grove will continue its work to replace and improve crosswalks downtown. The initiative is part of a larger project that aims to make Downers Grove safer for pedestrians, according to an update on the village website.
Crosswalks will be replaced along Main Street at the following intersections:
- Franklin
- Warren
- Burlington
- Curtiss
- Maple Ave.
The crosswalks will be made from "durable stamped pavement," a video on the village website explained. Other improvements include accessible crosswalk signals and an accessible sidewalk that provides audible cues of when to cross the street.

While crews work on the crosswalks, Main Street will be reduced to a single lane, with flaggers present to help direct the flow of traffic.
It's expected that this phase of crosswalk improvements, slated to kick off after Grove Fest closes at the end of June, will conclude some time in October.
