Vacant bank to give way to 89-unit apartment building in Downers Grove

What was once the site of an operational Forest Avenue bank will soon be home to an 89-unit apartment building in Downers Grove.

The long-vacant TCF bank branch at 5100 Forest Ave. will be demolished this fall to allow for a high-end rental development known as Burlington Station, according to a Chicago Tribune report. Village commissioners approved the construction permit at their Sept. 6 meeting.

"Holladay Properties originally planned to begin work at the site in 2015, but documents indicate they needed more time to prepare and review the project," the story said, adding that Marge Earl cast the only dissenting vote after expressing concerns about overcrowding and tenants moving in and out of the building.

Burlington Station will cost around $24.8 million.
