Downers Grove Couple Loses $7K in Jewelry, Cash, Gun in Burglary: Police
The burglar broke in the back door while the couple was out for three hours.
A married couple returned to their Claremont Drive home the night of Dec. 2 to find their house had been broken into and thousands of dollars of jewelry, cash and a gun had been stolen.
The couple reported the burglary immediately after noticing a back sliding door off its hinges and several items, including the door’s curtain and a leather wallet, out of place. The man told police all of the doors in the house had been secured and locked before the pair left for dinner and shopping for around three hours, and that the garage and front door had been locked when they got back home at about 8:15 p.m.
Upstairs, the master bedroom and bathroom had been rifled through, police said. Drawers were open in both rooms.

Six hundred dollars in coins and $6,000 in hundred-dollar bills were also stolen from a lockbox under the sink in the bathroom.
