Dull Weekend? We Can Fix That: 5 Fun Things to Do in Downers Grove
Check out these events to keep you entertained from Friday to Sunday.
Is your weekend schedule looking a little dull? Don’t worry — there’s plenty going on, and we’ve got the scoop on what’s going on when. Fill some extra time with a couple of these fun events.
1. AlphaBet Soup Presents: Sleeping Beauty 2016
Looking for something kid-friendly? This musical production is being put on by a theatre group geared toward the young ones and has shows all weekend. Live productions will take place Friday, Nov. 4 and Saturday, Nov. 5 at 10 a.m. both days. Tickets are $8.50 per person, or $7.50 if you’re coming in a group of 25 or more. More information here.

2. Knitche it out
If you need a new hobby, give this knitting group a try. Knitche has classes all the time, but this weekend you can try Introductory Weaving from 1-3 p.m. on Friday ($28 plus materials), Speed Knitting on Saturday from 11 a.m.-12 p.m. ($15 plus materials), Kids Beginning Crochet on Saturday from 12-1:30 p.m. ($20 plus materials), or Beginning Knitting on Sunday from 12-1:30 p.m. ($38 plus materials for two sessions). 3. Jam to live music at Ballydoyle
Going to see a live band is a perfect way to liven up a slow weekend night. The UFC Band plays Friday at 9 p.m. ($5 admission), Evolution plays Saturday at 9 p.m. ($5 admission), and the Whiskey Brothers play Sunday at 5:30 p.m. for free. It doesn’t get much better than that. More information here.
4. Sing your way to the Two Way Street Coffee House
This place has been hosting live folk bands every week since the ‘70s, and they’re not stopping now. Catch Rockford duo Trinadora Friday at 8:15 p.m. for $10 or, if you’re wanting to try out our vocal chops, take part in Saturday’s sing-around from 2-4 p.m. Beginners and experienced musicians alike share songs, listen to each other and learn new material from provided songbooks. 5. Get a little philanthropic
The First Congregational Church is hosting the Downer’s Grove Music Club Benefit Concert this Saturday at 7 p.m. Support local music education and local businesses by attending. More information here.
