E-Motorcycle Riders Flee Cops After Doing Wheelies, Riding On Sidewalk, Speeding
Police say the e-motorcycle riders had motors greater than 750 watts, which is not legal.
DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A pair of e-motorcycle riders fled police in Downers Grove after they were spotted driving on one wheel, riding on the sidewalk and speeding, a police report said.
An officer reported that on Aug. 27 around 7 p.m., they saw an e-motorcycle with a motor greater than 750 watts driving on a sidewalk near Fairview Avenue and 75th Street. According to the police report the driver, who appeared to be a teen, drove onto Fairview Avenue and started to head north, "riding on one wheel for hundreds of feet."
The officer reported that they caught up with the e-motorcycle around 71st Street shortly after and noticed another e-motorcycle with a motor of greater than 750 watts was driving on the sidewalk near the first. The second e-motorcycle rider was also seen driving on one wheel.

Per the police report, the officer turned on their emergency lights and used their PA system to ask the e-motorcycle riders to stop.
The driver of the second e-motorcycle began to flee at a high rate of speed, driving over a parkway, the police report said. The driver of the first e-motorcycle then also fled, turning onto Wirth, then heading to Grove Place via 71st, where the officer "lost sight of him."
