FTC to Appeal Advocate, NorthShore Merger Ruling

Advocate NorthShore Health Partners​ would be the 11th largest not-for-profit health care system in the country.

The Federal Trade Commission will appeal a judge's decision to allow a merger between Advocate Health Care and NorthShore University HealthSystem.

The FTC filed a notice of appeal June 15, according to Crain's Chicago Business.

After a federal court hearing in April, U.S. district court Judge Jorge Alonso announced June 14 the two organizations could become one. The resulting parent company would be known as Advocate NorthShore Health Partners.

The FTC's original administrative complaint against the merger, filed in December 2015, said the merged company would likely harm consumers, and it would not be motivated to upgrade services or improve quality.
