It is a Miracle!

Michael Benjamin: Run for Resilience!

Four years ago, Michael Benjamin was burned alive inside his Chicago home when an electric fireplace caught fire. On the way to the hospital, he was pronounced dead multiple times. His wife was told to say goodbye. A surgeon later said, "I'm an atheist, but that was a miracle." At that time, there was a nationwide prayer campaign to help save his life. Fifty-five percent of his body was burned, but he received excellent care at Loyola’s burn intensive care unit. T he doctor who saved Michael Benjamin's life told his wife is what saved him is that he was a marathon runner.

Yesterday, Monday, September 8th, the anniversary of the fire, Michael did something extraordinary. He ran 19 miles to retrace the exact route the ambulance traveled to the hospital. At the finish line, he was met by his wife and children, the family he fought to live for, as well as his doctor. Michael is truly an inspiration to others. Michael bears scars across his body but has built a new life as a father of three with twins on the way. This truly raises awareness for country-wide burn victims and their challenges.

He shares his love for life through chocolate at Chicago’s Nut & Candy. Tours of the factory are available. Located at 2944 W Devon Ave in Chicago, Michael is the owner of Tel-Aviv Kosher Bakery, a rare find that offers the best in pastries that include the almond croissant rolls, blueberry pastries, chocolate chip cookies, and challah bread.
