Major Accident Shut Down I-355 Southbound [UPDATED]

The three-vehicle crash began when a Chevy Blazer lost control. A 33-year-old Algonquin man was taken to the hospital.

Southbound I-355 was shut down from Army Trail Road to Roosevelt Road due to a serious accident, reportedly fatal, Friday morning.

The accident took place after 7 a.m. when the driver of a 2005 Chevy Blazer lost control and struck a 2014 Chevy Equinox, then veered into the concrete barrier and spun back into traffic, striking a 2000 Chevy Express van, according to State Police.

The driver, 33, of Algonquin, was not wearing a seat belt and suffered major injuries. He was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. His condition is not known. The other drivers, from Mount Prospect and Roselle, were not hospitalized

The expressway was re-opened around 10 a.m.
