Man Harasses, Exposes Himself to Woman in Jewel-Osco Parking Lot: DG Police

One Downers Grove woman got an unpleasant surprise last week when she parked her car in a Jewel-Osco lot, only to realize someone was watching her from one space over.

The woman, Karen Kowaleski, had pulled into the parking lot at 1148 Ogden Ave. just before 4 p.m. Jan. 11 and stayed inside her car because she was finishing a phone conversation with her dad. When she looked to her left, police reported, she saw a green 2009 Subaru pull up next to her and park in the space beside her.

Almost immediately, Kowaleski noticed the man inside the car, who was alone, was staring directly at her and was exposed in his car while masturbating.

She told police she looked away for a moment, but when she looked back to her left the man hadn’t lifted his gaze from her. She said the man was probably between 19 and 24 years old, white and wearing a black hooded sweatshirt. He was a brunette, she said, with a thin build and long nose.

Kowaleski told police she started to back out of her parking spot, but that when she did, the man in the Subaru did the same, blocking her way out. He eventually pulled forward again, she said, and drove off southbound on Saratoga, but returned through the same entrance/exit he’d left through. He stared directly at Kowaleski while he pulled back into the parking lot, she said.

She said she’d never seen the man before that day’s incident.

Police have been unable to identify the offender as of yet.
