Now Available: The After Hours Film Society's 2025 Anim8 Virtual Student Film Festival
21 of the best animated student films from around the world!
Twenty-one students from around the world received notification of their winning status in After Hours Film Society's 22nd Annual Student Film Festival. Competition was fierce this year as 69 entrants of diverse backgrounds from ten countries met the challenge of creating animated and/or experimental films of eight minutes or less in length as required by the show rules. Filmmakers ranging from middle through graduate school waited while their films were judged on criteria including originality, technique, and educational level. “These young filmmakers are living in a unique time, and they used that time to share their tales of villains and victors, fears and resolutions, and change and adaptation. A total of twenty-one entries from five countries are at the heart of our festival. Some films are delightfully whimsical and others are haunting. All are innovative and well worth viewing,” said Deborah Venezia, founder and executive director of the After Hours Film Society.
Winners will receive cash prizes, something that few student festivals offer. “Our goal is to support these talented artists and give them an opportunity to further their experience and education." Venezia continues, "Our award recipients are technically-advanced and highly creative. I encourage anyone with a curious mind and a sense of humor to watch our program and support these emerging artists."

The After Hours Film Society’s Anim8 Student Film Festival premieres in a virtual program on the Student Film Festival page at https://www.afterhoursfilmsociety.com/student-film-fest.html and will be available s until July 31, 2026. All are welcome to watch and celebrate this new wave of cinema.
