Pedestrian Killed By Train In Downers Grove: Police

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — A person was fatally struck by a train overnight in Downers Grove, authorities said.

Police responded around 12:45 a.m. Sunday to a report of a person hit near the BNSF Railroad tracks at Washington Street, according to the village of Downers Grove. A person was seen on foot south of the railroad crossing while the gates were down, authorities said, adding the person walked north across the tracks and was struck by a westbound freight train. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the village.

Downers Grove police assisted the Metra and BNSF police departments with the investigation, authorities said, adding anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Metra police at 312-322-2800.
