Snow Opens Sledding Hills In Downers Grove

The recent heavy snowfall has made conditions perfect for sledding. See where the best spots are in Downers Grove.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — When enough snow has fallen, the sledding hills open throughout Downers Grove Park District (DGPD). The recent spate of snowfall means the village's hills are now open for sledding for the first time in 2025.

Here's a list of the best spots to go sledding in Downers Grove.

Concord Square Park

Concord and Springside

Concord Square Park features a big sledding hill that rises above a deep detention basin that borders Springside Avenue.

Ebersold Park

Main and 59th Streets

According to DGPD, Ebersold Park has been popular for sledding long since before it became a public park. Its former owners, Marguerite and Fred Ebersold, used to permit local kids to sled on the hill in winter.

Gilbert Park

1500 Gilbert Ave.

Though Gilbert Park may be best known for its baseball diamond, the park also features a fun sledding area.

O'Brien Park

6909 S. Dunham Rd.

In addition to a playground and soccer field, O'Brien Park has a hill that's great for sledding in winter.

When conditions are favorable for sledding, the sledding hills in Downers Grove are open every day from 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Visitors may sled at their own risk, per DGPD.
