Taking Out the Trash: Recycling Extravaganza, Amnesty Days Set for Downers Grove

First comes recycling, then comes garbage. Read on for all the details.

Village officials are urging residents to recycle what they can before next week's Amnesty Day.

A "Recycling Extravaganza" is set for this Saturday, Sept. 10, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at in the Belmont Train Station's H parking lot. During that time, all items will be accepted for free. The event is open to all Downers Grove residents but does not include businesses or nonprofit organizations, a community alert said.

Volunteers will direct traffic into the area and assist those who are dropping off recyclables. Visit the village's website for a list of accepted and unaccepted items. Recycling Extravaganza precedes the local Amnesty Days, which are scheduled for the week of Sept. 12-16 on residents' regularly scheduled refuse pickup days.
