Village Vows to 'Expeditiously' Fill Council Vacancy Via Past Applicants
Downers Grove officials already have a pool of qualified applicants to fill the void left by a resigning commissioner.

The Downers Grove Village Council is meeting next week to discuss the open seat left by commissioner Gina Vattimo's recent resignation.
Village officials said the council will, "appoint a qualified individual to serve in her place until the vacancy is filled by an interim election" slated for April 2017. Vattimo, who had served since her election in April 2015, announced her "effective immediately" decision last week in a letter to the village council.

"I was very pleased to see such robust interest in the position, as it gave the council a variety of high-caliber candidates to choose from," Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully said.
He said the council will now work "expeditiously" to select a qualified candidate, starting by considering the applications received during the previous process.
