Police: Westmont Woman Accused of Beating in Good Sam Hospital Parking Garage

Aimee B. Coe, 33, was charged with battery after repeatedly punching another woman following a road rage incident on Sept. 13, police said.

A Westmont woman is accused of repeatedly punched a woman and beating her with a purse in the Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital parking garage, Downers Grove police said.

Police said they were called to the hospital, 3825 Highland Ave., around 8:45 a.m. on Sept. 13. The victim, who was being treated for facial injuries in the emergency room, told police she was beat by a hospital employee on the second floor of the hospital's south parking garage.

The victim said she first saw the offender—identified by police as Aimee Coe, 33, of the 0-50 block of Cass Avenue—while traveling to work in her car around 8:30 a.m. Coe was driving in front of the victim on northbound Fairview Avenue, police said.

As the two cars approached 39th Street, Coe stopped "for an unknown reason" and pulled over, according to the report. As the victim tried to pass, Coe reportedly yelled something, pulled behind the victim's car and followed her onto hospital property.

The victim told police she parked near the security office in the parking garage so she could alert officers of the situation. As she exited her car, she noticed Coe's SUV just one car away, police said.

According to the report, the victim asked Coe, "What's your problem?" at which point Coe punched the victim in the face with a closed fist, grabbed her by her arms and wrestled her to the ground. Coe repeatedly punched the victim with both fists and struck her several times with a purse, police said.

The victim told police she tried defending herself against the attack, but the punching only stopped after she began screaming. As Coe was gathering items from her purse that spilled during the altercation, she picked up the victim's iPhone and threw it to the ground, police said.

After Coe entered the hospital, the victim went to security to report the incident. Coe was identified by police, and was placed under arrest around 1:10 p.m.

Police said Coe started screaming, kicked her purse to the ground and attempted to run away as she was being handcuffed. She was taken to the police station, and released on bond.

Coe was charged with one count of battery and one count of criminal damage to property, police said.

Editor's Note: A spokesperson for Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital said Coe is not an employee of the hospital, but works for a physician's group in one of the medical buildings.
