Hemenway United Methodist Church is pleased to announce our 11th Annual "Taste of Hemenway" fundraising event at 933 Chicago Avenue church from 3 pm-7 pm on Saturday, July 30th.

At the Taste of Hemenway, guests will purchase food tickets that they can redeem for delicious dishes cooked by Hemenway parishioners in our commercial kitchen, which is also the home of the Hemenway Soup Kitchen, serving Evanston's homeless and hungry on Tuesdays. Proceeds from this event will support the mission and charitable programs of Hemenway Church.

"The wonderful thing about The Taste is that our parish is very culturally diverse," says Fay Bennett, parishioner and event organizer, "so guests will get to taste food from places like Jamaica, Belize, India, and of course America." Bennett herself is a native of Jamaica. Her jerk chicken is always a guest favorite, and she will serve it again this year.

For the past 11 years (Covid years notwithstanding), Hemenway has hosted this extraordinary event. "Hemenway started The Taste so that we would have a way to welcome the community and show what we are all about," says Bennett. "We love meeting our neighbors; they are always very generous with ticket purchases." Funds from ticket sales will support the Hemenway Soup Kitchen, their clothing closet, medical supply lending program, youth ministry, and worship ministry

This year's Taste will be in the parking lot behind Hemenway Church, 933 Chicago Avenue. It will include a DJ, live music, and a fun festival feel. "We hope very much that we'll see new faces at this year's Taste of Hemenway," says Pastor Dawn Gardner. "We are eager to meet our neighbors and become a more present part of the community in Southeast Evanston. All are welcome inside our doors."
