OSHA Fines Chicago Firm Doing Work in Evanston

Workers exposed to lead and arsenic while working on a house on Davis Street.

Arturo’s Painting and Restoration Inc. of Chicago was issued 17 safety citations, and faces $46,000 in fines, after a safety inspector spotted workers in Evanston doing work without appropriate protection. The workers were on a job last May in the 300 block of Davis Street and wore not wearing protective clothing or respirators as they scraped and sanded old paint on a house, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. An inspector happened to be driving by and noticed the situation. OSHA announced the findings on Dec. 4 following an investigation in which lead and arsenic were found in the building materials.
