Christmas Cheating

Patricia Mendleton, 50, of Chicago, was charged with felony retail theft. Police say that an investigation by store security at Carson's discovered that between Dec. 13 and 26 the employee under-rang merchandise to a loss of $2,802.54.

Heroin Possession

Theresa Ahmed, 46, of Chicago, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance. Ahmed was stopped in the 9100 block of California around 12:26 p.m., police said. She was found to have 1.7 grams of heroin and four plastic straws, police said. Citations were also issued for speeding and no front plate. 

The car's passenger, James McCormick, 43, of South Bend, Ind. was found to have 2 grams of heroin, syringes a spoon and other drug paraphernalia, police said.

SATURDAY, JAN. 5

Controlled Substance

Theodore Smith, 44, of Rockford, was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. A car Smith was a passenger in was stopped in the 8700 block of Kedzie around 5:45 p.m. for a traffic violation, police said. Police uncovered two hydrocodone pills and a burnt spoon, police said.
