Neighbors Rally Around Evergreen Park Family Burned Out Of Home, Start GoFundMe
Most Holy Redeemer parishioners and neighbors are rallying around a Raider family after a fire tore through their home Monday afternoon.
EVERGREEN PARK, IL — A fire Monday afternoon displaced an Evergreen Park family whose home was heavily damaged.
Around 1:30 p.m., Evergreen Park firefighters arrived on the scene of a fully involved fire at a house in the 9800 block of South Springfield Avenue. Images from ABC-7 Chicago showed a brick Georgian-style home with most of its windows broken. Much of the damage appeared to be in the back of the house, with fire debris piled on the backyard deck.
The blaze left Tom and Julie Wollenberg with the task of rebuilding after the fire swept through the home where they raised five boys. Their friends and neighbors from Most Holy Redeemer are rallying around the family as they begin the next chapter of rebuilding their lives.

“The family is profoundly grateful for what matters most: everyone is safe and on the path to healing,” said Dan Wollenberg, who is organizing the fundraiser. “However, the loss of their home and belongings is an overwhelming burden to bear. While the memories made at this house will forever remain in their hearts, the Wollenbergs now face the challenge of rebuilding their future.”
So far, over $91,000 has been raised toward a fundraising goal of $100,000. Donations to ‘Help the Wollenbergs Rebuild After House Fire,’ as they work to rebuild what was lost and cover some unexpected medical bills.
