Walmart Shooter In Custody, Chased Male Victim Into Store While Firing Gun: Evergreen Park Police
Two women who arrived with the shooter in a Hyundai were tracked by license plate readers and taken into custody, police said.

EVERGREEN PARK, IL — Two people were shot Wednesday afternoon in what police believe to be a targeted shooting at the Evergreen Park Walmart. The accused shooter is in police custody, Evergreen Park police said.
Just before 3 p.m., Evergreen Park police responded to a report of an active shooter at Walmart, 2500 W. 95th St. Responding officers, with assistance from Oak Lawn and Chicago police, cleared the store and found two victims with gunshot wounds.
A 23-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the leg. An innocent 70-year-old woman, who was shopping in the store, was shot in the foot, police said. Both were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center. The 23-year-old is listed in serious condition, while the woman is listed in good condition. The store was closed for the rest of the day.

According to police, the male victim arrived at the store. While walking into Walmart, the shooter got out of a car and chased after the man while shooting. Officers learned that the purported shooter arrived in a gray Hyundai. The shooter fled on foot, while the Hyundai and its occupants fled, police said. Witnesses were able to provide the vehicle’s last known direction of travel.
After Evergreen Park police requested Chicago police helicopter for assistance in searching for the suspect. They finally found him and apprehended him nearby.in the 9300 block of Country Club Drive, where he was taken into custody.

The vehicle the suspect arrived in was later located by Chicago police in the 800 block of West Marquette Road using plate readers. Chicago police tracked the vehicle using license plate readers from 79th Street and Cottage Grove to Englewood. CPD finally stopped the Hyundai on 67th and Peoria and apprehended two women inside. Both were taken into custody.
The Walmart shooting is still actively been investigated. Charges are under review. Police ask anyone who witnessed the shooting to contact the Evergreen Park Police Department at 708-422-2144.
