The Glen Ellyn History Center at 800 N. Main Street in Glen Ellyn presents Glen Ellyn On Ice, a new exhibit that has the complete history of Glen Ellyn’s Lake Ellyn Speed Skating story. Founded in 1938, Glen Ellyn Speed Skating has a proud tradition of introducing skaters from ages 4 to 70+ to the sport of speedskating. The capital letters GESS became famous in speed skating history. Whether the goal is fun, fitness or pursuing an Olympic gold, GESS is the place to start! New skaters are invited to watch, try introductory programs, sign up for our Learn To Speedskate or join the club with advanced skaters. GESS is a member of the Amateur Skating Association of Illinois (ASAI) and US Speedskating. Our coaches are all certified with US Speedskating. The team draws members from the greater Chicagoland area including Wisconsin and Indiana. So come on out and see what speedskating is all about. With these words the Glen Ellyn Historical Society researched the GESS and has developed this exhibit which will open the first of January and be on display through April. There is no Admission Charge - ABSOLUTELY FREE! Donations welcome. Call 630-469-1867 and check the website at www.gehs.org.
