After Years on Market, Frank Lloyd Wright House in Lake Co. Sells for $687,500

HIGHLAND PARK, IL - After years on the market and a dozen price reductions, theFrank Lloyd Wright house in Highland Park sold Tuesday for $687,500.

The house was originally listed for $1.39 million in May 2011, reported the Chicago Tribune.

Tuesday’s sale might have just saved the landmark, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The sellers, Juan and Claire Montenegro, received permission to demolish the house in October. While that permission transfers to the buyer, listing agent Julie Deutsch told Elite Street the new buyers don’t have plans to tear down the 3,000-square-foot home.

The house was originally built 109 years ago for George Madison Millard, the manager of the rare book department of A.C. McClurg. Millard, who lived in the home from 1906 to 1910, knew Wright from their time living on the South Side of Chicago.
