GRAYSLAKE, IL — With holiday gatherings and the emerging omicron surge of coronavirus combining to send demand for tests skyrocketing past supplies, an increasing number of Lake County residents have been seeking COVID-19 testing but have found it unavailable or have experienced lengthy waits.

Lake County health officials reported that a recent surge in new cases has driven the 7-day rolling average of new cases to 533 in Lake County. County officials reported 1,979 new cases on Monday.

As local residents have wanted to celebrate the holidays with family members either locally or by traveling to see relatives, the increased number of positive cases in Illinois has also caused testing to go up as well. State health officials announced Monday that the state's test positivity rate rose to 12.4 percent on Monday.
