D86, Hinsdale High School Teachers Association Negotiations Break for Summer

Both parties are hopeful for a tentative agreement by the end of August.

Hinsdale, IL - Hinsdale Township High School District 86 and the Hinsdale High School Teachers Association have announced that they have made significant progress in negotiation sessions for a new contract.

With the school year ending this week, it will be impossible to align schedules for everyone to meet regularly this summer, but both parties will work to find meeting times with the goal of finishing the negotiations by the end of August.

Earlier this year both parties stated publicly that they are committed to actively working together to reach a fair agreement in a timely manner.

“We have made significant progress in our meetings,” said HHSTA Lead Negotiator Julie May. “It’s unfortunate that we just ran out of time to finish the negotiations prior to the end of the school year. I am confident we will continue to work together in order to have a tentative agreement by the end of August.”

The current two-year contract expires on June 30. By default, once a contract expires, the current contract parameters remain in effect until a new contract is reached.

The Board of Education Negotiations Committee issued the following statement:

From the beginning, both parties made the commitment to work together to reach an agreement that is fair to teachers and mindful of our financial means. We have been working collaboratively and creatively throughout this process to find a solution. We look forward to resuming negotiations when everyone’s calendars allow all members of both negotiating teams to commit to a regular meeting schedule.
