Heroin Possession, Vehicle Break-ins and DUIs: Hinsdale Police Blotter
The crimes were reported in Hinsdale through Aug. 30.

TUESDAY, AUG. 30
Hit-and-Run Accident
A witness saw a green Pointiac Grand Am sideswipe a parked vehicle around 9:50 a.m. in the first block of South Monroe Street, police said. The driver was a woman wearing dark clothing. The case remained under investigation on Friday.
MONDAY, AUG. 29
Retail Theft

A thief walked out of Walgreens, 15 Grant Square, around 11:15 a.m. with several packages of stolen razor blades. The suspect is decribed as a white man who stands at about 6 feet tall and weighs around 220 pounds. He has short dark hair and was wearing glasses, dark pants and a brown button-down shirt, police said.
Stolen Laptop

Police said an $850 laptop was reported missing from a desk at Young Life, 836 W. Hinsdale Ave. The employee arrived to work to find the front door locked. The theft occurred between 5 p.m. on Aug. 26 and 8:05 a.m. on Aug. 29.
SUNDAY, AUG. 28
Possession of Heroin
Police said they stopped a "known suspect" around 7 a.m. near the intersection of Ogden Avenue and County Line Road for improper lane use.
"Suspect's driver's license was suspended and she did not have valid insurance," the report says. "Suspect was in possession of a substance that field tested positive for heroin. Suspect was taken to Hinsdale Hospital at her request for treatment."
The individual's name was not yet released because charges are pending, according to police.
SATURDAY, AUG. 27
Vehicle Break-in
On Aug. 27, a victim reported that sometime between 10 p.m. on Aug. 24 and 6 a.m. on Aug. 25, a thief entered his or her two unlocked cars that were parked in a driveway in the 300 block of West North Street. Missing were sunglasses valued at $125, $25 in loose change and an iPod valued at around $100.
Deceptive Practice
Checks in the same name were written for two purchases totaling $169.52 at Kramer Foods, 16 Grant Square, and later returned for insufficient funds. The incidents were reported on Aug. 27, but occurred on Aug. 12 and Aug. 16.
FRIDAY, AUG. 26
Identity Theft
The victim of an identity theft reported on Friday, Aug. 26 that someone used her personal information to complete a credit card application. The incident occurred between Aug. 5 and Aug. 8. The credit card company declined the application.
Criminal Damage to Property
Without permission, a contractor cut down four or five trees along the property line of a homeowner living in the 800 block of Justina Street, police said. The victim reported the damage on Aug. 26 but said the stumps were severed between Aug. 4 and Aug. 8.
Aggravated Driving Under the Influence
Police said they stopped Benjamin Betance, 57, of the 3200 block of South 54th Street in Cicero, around 11:50 p.m. near the intersection of Garfield and Maumell avenues after he didn't use a turn signal when necessary. He was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol, improper lane use and failing to signal when turning. He refused to take a Breathalyzer test, according to the report.
THURSDAY, AUG. 25
Vehicle Break-ins
- Sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 and noon on Aug. 25, a thief entered a vehicle parked in a driveway in the 100 block of Ravine Road, police said. The perpetrator rummaged through the glove box and center console and stole an iPass.
- A burglar entered and rummaged through a vehicle in the 300 block of The Lane between 9 p.m. on Aug. 24 and 7:30 a.m. on Aug. 25. The car was parked in the owner's driveway. A credit card was reported stolen.
Hit-and-Run Accident
A suspect driving a late model maroon van with temporary Illinois license plates hit someone's car around 3:30 p.m. near Oak Street and Ogden Avenue and drove away.
Driving Under the Influence
Police said they arrested Michelle R. Kirk, 23, of the 1300 block of South Finley Road in Lombard shortly before 10 p.m. near the intersection of Ogden and Monroe Street. Kirk was reportedly stopped for improper lane use and thereafter, charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving without insurance and improper lane use. She refused a test of her blood-alcohol content, according to the report.
TUESDAY, AUG. 23
Stolen Cell Phone
Police said a victim reported that her cell phone was stolen from her vehicle while parked near 59th and Madison streets. The thief broke in between 9 a.m. on Aug. 20 and around the same time on Aug. 23. The vehicle owner was unsure whether her car was locked at the time of the theft. Her phone was returned to her after residents found it in the grass on Madison Street.
Domestic Battery
Kimberly A. Heimke, 43, of the 1200 block of Chanticleer Lane in Hinsdale, was arrested around 9:10 p.m. in the 800 block of North Oak Street and charged with domestic battery. Police said she made "insulting or provoking" contact with a family member.
