Hinsdale Police Blotter: Possession of a Stolen Car; Missing Pearl Necklace

MONDAY, SEPT. 12

Stolen Computer

A thief snagged a computer from a restroom in a business at 15 Salt Creek Lane in Hinsdale between 11:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. Police say the victim set her bag down and later returned to find it missing. Inside was an Apple laptop valued at $1,500 and an iPad valued at $500.

Pool Pump Damaged

A resident in the 900 block of South Grant Street reported on Sept. 12 that about one month before, the pump for her pool had been damaged. The cost to repair the pump was between $3,000 and $4,000, according to the police report.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 11

Possession of a Stolen Car

After conducting a registration check on a 2015 Bentley near the intersection of Ogden Avenue and York Road, police determined that it had been reported stolen by the Illinois Secretary of State’s police unit. The driver of the vehicle was swerving within the lane, according to the police report. The vehicle was valued at $200,000 and the driver was released from custody without charges.

FRIDAY, SEPT. 9

Identity Theft

An identity thief presented a victim’s driver’s license shortly after 4 p.m. at a local bank branch in the 400 block of East First Street and thereafter, tried withdrawing money from his or her account four consecutive times. The suspect tried doing the same at various other nearby banks, the police report said.

Stolen Bicycle

Police say that sometime between 6:45 a.m. and 5:40 p.m., someone stole a bicycle from a rack outside the train station near the corner of Hinsdale Avenue and Washington Street. The bike was valued at around $450.

WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 7

Fraud

A victim’s primary caregiver called police on Sept. 7 to place a report about fraudulent spending. An identity thief reportedly used the victim’s information to complete four transactions between Aug. 15 and Aug. 25, according to police. The resident lives in the 700 block of South Garfield Avenue. The incidents remained under investigation on Sept. 19.

TUESDAY, SEPT. 6

Missing Pearl Necklace

Police are investigating the theft of a pearl necklace from a home in the 200 block of South Quincy Street. The incident occurred between Aug. 4 and 31, but was reported on Sept. 6. The victim said the necklace was taken from a dresser drawer in his bedroom and that he had hired a housekeeper to clean his home at the time. The necklace’s value was undisclosed and the case remained under investigation as of Sept. 19.

Construction Site Theft

Someone stole an electrical meter from a site in the 100 block of The Lane between 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 5 and 7:30 a.m on Sept. 6, according to police reports. The thief entered a fenced-in construction site. The meter was valued at around $200.
