Hinsdale Police Officers, Firefighter Recognized and Promoted for Outstanding Work
These officers worked hard to get to where they are today.
Three public safety officers were promoted in Hinsdale last week: Officer Tom Lillie was promoted to the position of Deputy Police Chief, officer Lou Hayes was promoted to the position of Sergeant, and firefighter and paramedic Don Newberry was promoted to the position of Fire Lieutenant, the Village of Hinsdale announced in a release.
Lillie has worked with the Hinsdale Police Department since 2001, according to the release, working jobs as a patrol officer, assistant team leader for SWAT, Crisis Intervention Team member, field training officer, school resource officer at Hinsdale Central High School, firearms instructor, traffic safety officer and use of force instructor, to name just a handful. He graduated from the Illinois State Police Academy in 2001 and has an associate's degree in criminal justice. He's in school right now working to pursue a bachelor's degree in the same field.

Hayes has been with the department since 1998, and represented the village and regional Felony Investigative Assistance Team for 12 years on the Board of Directors for the Illinois Tactical Officers Association. He graduated from Northwestern and has also studied at the Force Science Research Institute. He's also been a patrol officer, CIT member, SWAT team supervisor, detective and firearms and tactics training supervisor, according to the release.

Newberry has been with the fire department for 27 years now and has been a paramedic for 29. In addition to an associate's degree in fire science from the College of DuPage, Newberry has logged more than 120 hours of classwork at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He's received awards for his performance as a paramedic and in 2013 rescued a Hinsdale resident from a structure fire.
