Hinsdale Police Reports: Underage Drinking, Burglary, Property Damage

Hinsdale Police Department reported crimes through July 5.

Village of Hinsdale was the victim of a phishing scheme June 28 related to emails that were sent using the email address of a village employee. No server access was gained and there was no compromise.

Five male teenagers were seen June 29 in the street standing next to a garbage bag filled with empty beer cans at 3rd Street and County Line Road. The teenagers were seen to be under the influence of alcohol. A plastic bag was found containing a green leafy substance and a glass pipe commonly used for ingesting cannabis. They were charged and released to appear in court. Four of the teenagers are from Chicago and one is from Oak Forest.

Two RML Specialty Hospital employees reported their wallets stolen from their offices July 1. The wallets contained approximately $70, credit cards, driver’s licenses and insurance cards. Fraudulent transactions were made at a gas station ($42.88) and at Home Depot in Bedford Park ($57.90). Credit cards taken were used in an attempt to make fraudulent purchases at a Walmart for approximately $505 in Bedford Park, but the charges were stopped by the victims’ banks.

A 16-year-old girl of Hinsdale was a passenger in a car stopped July 2 for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign at Oak and Hickory streets. The girl was seen to be under the influence of alcohol. She was charged with unlawful use of alcohol by a person under 21, and she was released to a parent.

Lizabeth Duffy, 54 of the 400 block of Quail Run Court in Darien, was stopped July 1 for speeding and improper lane use at Route 83 and 55th Street. She was observed to be under the influence of alcohol, and she refused testing to determine BAC. Duffy was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding and improper lane use and was released to appear in court.

Someone used a victim’s information June 6 to open store accounts at Banana Republic, Victoria’s Secret, and Macy’s.

Police were sent to the Hinsdale Train Depot, 25 E Hinsdale Ave., on July 3 for an activated fire alarm. Someone used a fire extinguisher, leaving white smoke in the train depot. Police watched video surveillance from the depot and were able to find the suspects walking on 1st Street and Village Place. Eric L Loclear, 25 of the 0-100 block of S Highway in Blenheim, South Carolina, ran from police. He was charged with two felony counts for burglary and criminal damage to government supported property, and he was also charged with resisting/obstructing an officer. He was taken to DuPage County Jail. Tommy E Blackford, 26 of the 2500 block of S Sheridan Boulevard in Lakewood, Colorado, was charged with criminal trespass to government supported property and was released to appear in court.

Nikki McClam, 48 of the 2500 block of Clarendon Drive in Colorado Springs, Colorado, was stopped July 3 for disobeying a traffic control device in the 5500 block of S Grant Street. She was observed to be under the influence of alcohol, and she submitted to testing that indicated she was over the legal limit. McClam was in possession of a stun gun and a green leafy substance that field tested positive for cannabis. She was charged with DUI- alcohol, unlawful use of a weapon, possession of cannabis and disobeying a traffic control device, and she was released to appear in court.

Police were dispatched to a loud party complaint July 4 in the 900 block of S Monroe Street. a 16-year-old boy of Darien was observed to be under the influence of alcohol. He was charged with unlawful use of alcohol by a person under 21, and he was released to a parent.

A teenager from Hinsdale was seen walking up an embankment off of Ogden Avenue July 1 near Washington Street. She was seen to be under the influence of alcohol. She was charged and released to appear in court.

Police were sent to the 200 block of Fuller Road to investigate a criminal damage to property. While investigating the complaint, Stephen A Sturms, 18 of the 300 block of N Elm Street in Hinsdale was observed to be under the influence of alcohol. He was in possession of a pipe commonly used for ingesting cannabis. Sturms was charged with criminal damage to vehicle, criminal damage to property, possession of drug equipment and illegal consumption of alcohol by a minor, and he was released to appear in court.

Multiple reports of criminal damage to property and burglary to vehicle are being investigated. Two large flower pots were damaged at Elm School, side mirrors were damaged on a car parked in the 300 block N Elm Street, a planter was knocked over a decorative lamp was damaged and a car had been gone through in the 200 block Ravine, a statue was knocked over and a yard light was uprooted and a vehicle’s windshield was cracked in the 300 block N Elm Street, a vehicle’s window was smashed and a vehicle was ransacked in the 500 block N Elm Street. The damage occurred between June 29 and 30.

Someone smashed a front driver side window of a parked car June 29 and took a purse from the trunk in the 10 block of S Vine Street. The purse contained medication, a wallet with $20, credit and debit card and a smart phone.

Someone entered unlocked cars between July 1 and 2 in the 700 block of E 3rd St., 100 block of Springlake Ave., 300 block E 57th St, 200 block of E 9th Ct, 5600 block of S Elm St., 5600 block of S Oak St., 700 block of McKinley Lane, and the 900 block of S Park. There were no signs of forced entry. Items taken from the cars include eyeglasses ($200), cash (approximately $105), an iPod (unknown value.) A bicycle valued at $750 was missing from a garage in the 900 block of S Park Ave.
