Hinsdale Woman Accused Of Stealing Gun, Charged With Felony

She stole it from a neighbor three years ago, police said.

HINSDALE, IL – A Hinsdale woman is accused of stealing a gun from a neighbor's house three years ago, Hinsdale police said.

Debra Kaleta-Nigri, 60, who lives in the 800 block of West North Street, was charged Monday with felony possession of a stolen firearm, police said. She was taken to the DuPage County Jail, where she remained Wednesday afternoon, according to jail records.

On Friday, Kaleta-Nigri was evicted from her house. In handling the matter, the DuPage County Sheriff's Office recovered the stolen gun, police said.

Over the last month, Kaleta-Nigri has disturbed neighbors, drawing no-trespass notices for at least 17 nearby houses, police said. Authorities said she has entered houses through unlocked doors and asked for things such as food and wine, as well as a place to charge her phone. Her house is believed to have been without power for some time.

On Wednesday, Kaleta-Nigri's landlord and others were seen in front of the house collecting her belongings, which were put in the side yard during the eviction. Many of the items were being thrown in the dumpster.

On Monday afternoon, Kaleta-Nigri stole a bottle of alcohol from Walgreens, 15 Grant Square, police said. She was charged with retail theft and resisting or obstructing officers.

Patch has filed a public records request in the felony case against Kaleta-Nigri.
