Hinsdale's New Fire Chief Took the Reins On Saturday
Captain John Giannelli was appointed by Village President Tom Cauley Nov. 15.

HINSDALE, IL – At the November 15 Village Board meeting, the Village President appointed a
new Hinsdale Fire Chief.
President Tom Cauley appointed Captain John Giannelli as Fire Chief effective November 26.
John celebrated his 25-year anniversary with the Hinsdale Fire Department in May. John was
promoted to Lieutenant in 2006 and Captain in 2012. He currently is a shift commander and is
the Department’s Training Officer.

John has completed numerous certifications through the State Fire Marshal’s Office including
Basic and Advanced Firefighter, Fire Service Instructor and Fire Officer. He recently completed
the certification process as a Chief Fire Officer. John received his Bachelor’s Degree in Fire
Science Management from Southern Illinois University.
The appointment comes as a result of the retirement of current Fire Chief Richard Ronovsky.
Chief Ronovsky’s last day with the Hinsdale Fire Department is November 25.
