Lemonade, Anyone?

Hinsdale's farmers market inspire youngsters to start their own business.

A brother and her sister on the north side might be the youngest entrepreneurs in town.

Isaac, 8, and Louisa, 6, garnered a small following selling lemonade in their neighborhood on Park Ave. The siblings sold their refreshment a few times a week to friends and residents during the summer.

"It gets busier when the lunch crowd from the village comes by," Ramona, the children's mother, said.

When Isaac and Louisa's lemonade stand was open for business, Ramona kept an eye on them from her living room window. She said the children came up with the idea to open a stand all by themselves.

The lemonade stand started after a visit to the Hinsdale Farmer's Market over the summer, Isaac said. He and his sister saw all the vendors selling food for cash, and they wanted to do the same.

The siblings wanted to raise enough money to crack open their mechanical bank, which is used to store their savings.

"You have to have $10 to make it open," Isaac said.
