Hinsdale No. 9 on Money Mag's National 'Top-Earning Towns' List

The magazine plants the Village high on its list of 25 towns with the highest median family income, but another Chicagoland town is ranked slightly higher.

Money magazine’s Best Places to Live rankings have been released for 2013, including a list of the nation’s 25 “top-earning towns,” with the Village of Hinsdale earning a spot in the top 10 at No. 9

According to the magazine, the Village (pop. 16,964) has a median family income of $221,902 and a median home price of $722,000. 

“When well-to-do Chicago executives aim to move somewhere with quick access to the city, they look to Hinsdale,” the magazine writes.

“The village offers proximity to just about everything—two major airports, several main highways and interstates, and downtown Chicago via a 22-minute express train.”

However, one other Illinois town was ranked higher on the list. The Village of Winnetka, pop. 12,232, has a median family income of $235,432 and a median home price of $840,000, and is ranked sixth. The magazine identifies it as another place “where many successful Chicago executives end up when they move out of the city to raise children.”

The magazine’s top-earning town is Scarsdale, NY, pop. 17,336, with a median family income of $291,542 and a median home price of $1,205,000.
