Who Might Run for Dillard's State Senate Seat?
With his run for the governor's office, state Sen. Kirk Dillard will be forced to relinquish his 24th District seat; who might challenge for it?
With 24th District state Sen. Kirk Dillard (R-Hinsdale) officially running for Illinois governor in 2014, the first few names have started cropping up for who might run for his vacant seat in Springfield, as under state law Dillard cannot run for both the Senate and governor’s seats simultaneously, the Doings Hinsdale reports.
According to the paper, candidates include Dennis Reboletti, a Republican House member from Elmhurst, Chris Nybo, a former House member whom Dillard defeated in the 2012 race for the seat, and Patti Bellock, also a Republican House member from Hinsdale.
Reboletti told the paper he “anticipate[s] making an announcement in the next few weeks,” while Nybo said he is “taking it under consideration, but there’s a long time before the election;” the paper could not reach Bellock for comment. No Democratic names have yet emerged to challenge in the ultra-red district.

“There’s not a shortage of very fine potential candidates,” Dillard himself told the paper. “I want someone who is a tireless representative for the taxpayers and an advocate to the suburbs to replace me.”
