Piano and Organ Duets at Shepherd of the Prairie

The Artist Series kicks off another new year of musical enjoyment for the community. Attend a lively and entertaining piano and organ duet performed by Kathleen Gentes and Matt Haider at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church, 10805 Main Street, Huntley on Sunday, January 18, 2026 at 3:00pm

Kathleen Gentes and Matt Haider’s musical partnership began the way all great stories do—during a global pandemic. They were armed with two pianos, a camera, and a mission to keep their church community smiling at Cristus Victor Lutheran Church in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. What started as “let’s just record a few duets” quickly turned into a fun project. Before long, they initiated their first in-person duet concert with success.

Gentes has been at the keyboard since age five and spent 39 years as organist at Christus Victor Lutheran Church, in addition to a full career inspiring young musicians in middle school choirs and bands.

Haider’s musical journey started with his grandmother, a church organist, who set him on a course for a lifetime of ministry and performance. Today he serves as Director of Music at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church in Arlington Heights, where he directs a youth choir, the senior choir, and the church’s 25 member orchestra.

Together, Gentes and Haider bring contagious energy, a sense of adventure, and a healthy dose of laughter to every rehearsal and performance. Their repertoire jumps easily from classical to sacred to jazz standards—and yes, sometimes even a little pop—because they firmly believe that great music is whatever brings people joy.
