Marengo Man Points Gun, Knife at Sheriff’s Deputies Then Taken Down by Beanbag Rounds

A Marengo man was in custody Saturday after he brandished a gun and a knife at McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies trying to arrest him on a domestic battery warrant, according to reports.

Edward P. Bolen, 49, of 2905 Northwest Road, is charged with aggravated assault, a Class 4 felony, aggravated unlawful use of weapon, a Class 4 felony, possession of firearm without a FOID card, a Class A misdemeanor and possession of ammunition without a FOID, a Class A misdemeanor, according to sheriff’s reports.

McHenry County sheriff’s attempted to serve the warrant around 12:15 p.m. at Bolen’s residence. Sheriff’s deputies saw Bolen and made contact with him and a roommate. Upon entry into the residence Bolen pointed a handgun at them, reports stated. Sheriff’s deputies fired their weapons at Bolen, but he was not struck. He retreated to a room in the basement and barricaded himself, deputies said.

The McHenry County Sheriff’s SWAT team responded to the scene and entered the room, but Bolen brandished a knife at team members, reports stated.

Bolen was incapacitated after he was struck twice with beanbag rounds, and taken into custody, according to reports.

Marengo Township Fire Protection District responded and provided medical attention to Bolen. Bolen was treated at Woodstock Memorial Hospital and released into the sheriff’s office custody.
