CTA Offers Free Rides for CPS First Day of School

The first day of the academic year is Tuesday Sept. 6.

CTA is offering free rides on all buses and trains to all Chicago Public School students on the first day back to school.

The school district's first day of the academic year is Tuesday Sept. 6 and the free rides are intended to encourage school attendance. Adults who accompany CPS students on Tuesday will get to ride the CTA for free.

Mayor Emanuel launched the “First Day, Free Rides” program six years ago.

CTA also offers 75 cent fares for elementary and high school students Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. while school is in session.

CTA also offers reduced fares to students with a Ventra card on CTA trains and buses Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. for 75 cents a ride.
