Driver Hits Rte. 41 Median, Falls Asleep, Arrested for DUI: Police
A passenger also hit a cab driver after refusing to pay his fare and then ran away, police said.

Passenger hits cab driver
Police responded to a 911 call in the 1100 block of Ashley Road at 1:30 a.m. Sept. 28 from a cab driver requesting help with an intoxicated passenger who was refusing to pay. When police arrived, the driver reported that the passenger had struck him after he called police and fled. The passenger, Stephen R. Platcow, 48, of the 1100 block of Ashley Road, was found, charged with battery and theft of services, released on $1,500 bond and given a Nov. 4 court date.

DUI
An officer saw a pickup truck on the shoulder of Route 41 at Deerpath that appeared to have struck the median and snapped off a wheel and tire at 6:45 a.m. Sept. 21. The driver, Agustin Z. Zamudio, 33, of the 400 block of Franklin St. in Waukegan, was asleep inside, police said. When he was woken up, police say he admitted to drinking and had an odor of alcohol.

He spoke with officers briefly before returning to the truck and refusing to get out again. Zamudio was removed from the truck and arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and resisting a peace officer. He was released on $3,000 bond and given an Oct. 24 court date.
