Man Pulled Over for DUI Lays Down on Ground While Talking to Officers: Police

A second man was arrested for DUI after he hit a mailbox and fire hydrant, police say.

The following information is from the Lake Forest Police Department. An arrest is not an indication of guilt.

Police responded to a report of a possibly impaired driver on Waukegan Road at 7 p.m. Aug. 13. An officer found the vehicle after it had struck a mailbox at Waukegan and Inverleith and continued on. Police found syringes and other drug paraphernalia inside the car.

The driver, Martin J. Nicholson, 24, of the 500 block of Park Avenue in Libertyville, was disoriented and unresponsive and lay down on the ground while officers spoke to him, police said.

He was charged with driving under the influence of drugs, leaving the scene of an accident, improper lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released on $3,000 bond and given a Sept. 5 court date.

DUI

Police responded to a report of a car that left the road and hit a mailbox and fire hydrant in the 1300 block of Inverleith at 9:30 p.m. Aug. 13. The driver, Thomas P. Omara, 77, of that same block, admitted to drinking and failed a field sobriety test, police said. He later produced a breath sample that showed a blood alcohol content of 0.118. He was released on $3,000 bond and given a Sept. 5 court date.
