2 Jump, 2 Rescued in 'Terrifying' Lake View Fire

The early Friday blaze in a 3-story, 6-unit building left three people critically injured.

Three people are in critical condition after a fire in a Lake View apartment building early Friday morning. The fire broke out just before 2 a.m. Two people were forced to jump to escape the flames. Firefighters rescued two others from the burning building in the 3400 block of North Janssen Avenue.

One woman awoke because she heard a man on the street shouting, "Get out. Get out." Jessica Johnson, standing on the street after firefighters put out the blaze, told the Chicago Tribune, "It was scary, terrifying."

A man who jumped landed on the concrete, reports WGN Morning News. He was injured and bleeding. A woman who jumped landed on a garage, according to WGN.

Two people were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in critical condition. A man, 22, is in critical condition, as well as a woman whose age was not available. Two others were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. A man, 35, is in critical condition. A woman, 23, is in serious condition, and was transferred to Stroger Hospital.

The Chicago Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire, which started on the third floor.
