Boston Marathon Explosions; 361 Chicagoans Entered (VIDEO)

Two explosions Monday near the finish line of the Boston Marathon have left two dead and several wounded, the New York Times is reporting.

Bloodied competitors and volunteers were seen leaving the scene and a medical tent near the finish was being used to treat the injured, the Times reports. Fox news cites the Boston Police Department in reporting that at least two people are dead and dozens injured—including at least 10 who have amputated limbs.

"There are a lot of people down," the AP quoted one man saying. The explosions happened about three hours after the winners crossed the finish line.

Nearly 40,000 people compete in the Boston Marathon annually with runners coming from all over the world. Of the 974 Illinoisans who registered for this year's race, 361 hail from within Chicago's city limits, according to the race’s website. 

Fifty entrants live in the 60657 zip code area, which mainly covers Lake View.
